The contextual content narrated by this artwork address the issue of toy guns and the manufacture, sales and marketing of them toward children. Toy weapons that are often produced to replicate real firearms are sold to children who subsequently receive a romanticised and glorified perspective of guns which inevitably creates a desensitising effect on our children.
The work has achieved a visual language that communicates its conceptual issues by contrasting opposing objects in a satirical dichotomy. By utilising the repetitive process of layering it creates a manifestation of ironic incongruity between sweet and gun. This pleasing tactile quality of the work promotes an enjoyable experience when viewing and interpreting the piece.
By working with materials that are not traditionally considered to be art materials it creates a ‘playful’ interface between the artwork, the space it occupies and the spectator.
